One hotel’s sauna is a cedar-lined room with a lake view. The next is a broken infrared cabinet behind the towel cart, available Tuesdays only, for a fee. The booking sites file them under the same little icon and wish you luck.
We’re sauna obsessives, so we do the sorting. We note the type, who’s allowed in, and whether it’s worth the detour — and we’re honest when a sauna is small but does the job and the towels are good. Start with a city.
